Warranty
In addition to the manufacturer’s used car warranty, some dealers also sell warranties from third parties. These are listed in the SYSTEMS COVERED/DURATION section of the Buyers Guide and must be clearly disclosed to consumers.
A warranty from a third-party provider may include roadside assistance, rental car reimbursement and trip interruption coverage. But it’s important to examine the fine print of any contract carefully and decide if it’s worth the extra monthly payment.
If a dealer offers a warranty, they must disclose the name and job title of the person in charge of warranties. This person must be available to answer consumer questions about the warranty. The dealer must also include a statement that explains the buyer’s rights and responsibilities under the warranty.
The law allows buyers five business days to return a vehicle that has been repaired under warranty. But the dealer must honor the warranty only if it proves that the damage was caused before the date of sale.
